Winter visitors to the Snowies will be able to enjoy a new attraction this year with the arrival of a fun skating rink at the Jindabyne Bowling & Sports Club overlooking picturesque Lake Jindabyne and the Snowy Mountains.

Kids, along with big kids that resemble parents, will be able to skate, loop, spin and perhaps even impress us with triple axels at this new outdoor facility that features an amazing ice-like surface called Super-Glide that has been developed in Canada and the USA.

The triple axels may be a bit tricky but beginners will be able to gain confidence on the sympathetic rink surface just after a few sessions.

“This surface is the most advanced in the world and offers a synthetic ice skating surface with a scientifically engineered molecular structure that lets skaters glide just as smoothly as on real ice,” said Richard Pembroke owner of Super-Glide Snowy Mountains.

“The 220 square metre rink will open on the June long weekend and provide some winter fun, spills and thrills through until October.

“This is a terrific addition to the “things to do” list for the region and will provide visitors a something extra while on holidays. Coastal towns have putt putt golf but we now have superglide skating.

“Sessions times will start from 9.30am until 11am daily for group bookings and tour operators followed by public sessions from 11am until 9pm.

“The rink will provide some valuable winter entertainment especially on those bad mountain weather days when skiing and riding just aren’t options. It will operate until 9pm each night for teenagers and adults. People will be able to dust off their old skates and bring them down to the rink,” said Mr Pembroke.

Skaters and onlookers will also be able to enjoy delicious hot chocolates and Belgium waffles while at the rink and the Bowling Club, an institution in the Snowies, will be open for Bistro lunch and dinner daily while providing other club services and facilities.

Group bookings can be made by contacting Richard Pembroke on 0457 499 759.

The rink will provide a much needed all-weather attraction for winter visitors and locals alike.

“Skate hire will be included in the price of the session ticket that will be $10 for adults and $8 for kids and students aged under 17. There will also be a family ticket for $30. Some sessions throughout the day will run for 90 minutes but most will be for one hour,” said Mr Pembroke.

Super-Glide rinks are used all over Canada and the United States for pleasure and enjoyment but they are also used extensively by figure skaters and ice hockey players for displays, training and competitions.

The surface actually aids training as it helps figure skaters to boost speed and endurance and is instrumental in developing better jumps and spins.

In addition to the normal skating sessions, available will be school, group and birthday party sessions allowing for groups of friends to get together and play on the rink.
